i'm not a lawyer but i don't think there is any problem about a change.
Changing a message that got printed of course doesn't change the
copyright of the source code, it is more about the freedom of calling or
not calling a function. I don't think the CDDL have a clause that
require to call a "print copyright message" function. It might be
problematic if you print only an illumos/oi message without
acknowledging oracles ip, however, not printing the message at all,
should be safe.
However, since it is an illimos decision what to print out from kernel,
i suggest you assing the bug to OI Illumos. I don't think we would patch
away an Illumos Copyright message if it appears.
