FWIW The Illumos lists only rewrite the <user at isp.com> part and leave "Joe User" intact.

Modifying the rewriting of "From:"  along the line of:

nawk '/From:/{sub( /<.*>/ ,"<openindiana-discuss at openindiana.org>")}{print $0}'

should be sufficient unless mailman is really perverted and won't allow stream editing.   Illumos is using a different mailing list package so their solution probably doesn't apply.

I'd be happy to write an awk script to do whatever is needed.  I've just not been able to get a response from whoever maintains the list so as to discuss further.
