First of all I made a mistake in the original post, it's --localstatedir=/var, not --with-localstatedir=/var.

I've been running this version of dbus for a couple of days and it's obvious now that it has issues - most notably it leaks memory.

I'm in the process of testing 1.4.8 and the issues with 1.26.6 seem to be fixed.  You will need to apply the patch attached to build it though.

Please upate dbus to version 1.2.26.  It will be needed by my port of HAL 0.5.14.

Downloading the source and configuring and installing with:

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --with-localstatedir=/var --with-dbus-user=daemon --with-dbus-daemondir=/usr/lib 

Works fine on my system.
