We updated our workstations for a9 and then tested them against the pkg integrity of the a9 repo. Usually this will resolve your issue during a7->a8->a9 transitioning (there were some other minor issues that are now resolved in JDS-current).

After rebooting an updated system with pkg update, I can login gdm which then goes to a completely empty screen.  If I insert a CD then an icon appears on the desktop which I can open the file browser and then get a xterm open.  If I kill the pid of gnome-panel, it then restarts by itself and the task bars show up like they should be.  I have been unable to find anything in error log files regarding this, but its easily reproducible.  If you tell me what log I should be looking at I can paste from it.  Thanks.
