Justin - need more info on HW like graphics card and any message you see after gdm login (or if the screen just goes blank). Try running the display with the VESA driver setting just to check if something got fudged in the updates.

After rebooting an updated system with pkg update, I can login gdm which then goes to a completely empty screen.  If I insert a CD then an icon appears on the desktop which I can open the file browser and then get a xterm open.  If I kill the pid of gnome-panel, it then restarts by itself and the task bars show up like they should be.  I have been unable to find anything in error log files regarding this, but its easily reproducible.  If you tell me what log I should be looking at I can paste from it.  Thanks.
