A few questions... Message-ID: Hello everyone, I just heard about the sad news from OmniOS and so I thought about switching to OI. I have a few questions and was hoping that someone might be able to help me out. Currently we run a mix of Nexenta HA cluster and an OmniOS system. The Nexenta cluster is our primary storage while the OmniOS system is used for cold data and as a destination for zfs replication. 1. I wonder how easy it is to switch from ominous to OI. Is it just a matter of spool export / import? Of course I would configure the system/services the same way as the OmniOS system and then import the ZFS pool. 2. Has anyone successfully set up zfs replication from Nexenta to OI? We still having trouble to get this working with OmniOS. We can replicate from the Nexenta system to OmniOS but we can't flip it. As soon as we flip it the Nexenta system crashes and we have to reboot. 3.Running a heterogenous environment we have smb /idmap and ldap client configured. On both systems Nexenta an OmniOS we had total outages because smb would crash and coredump because of ldap crashing. Nexenta provided us with a fix that seems to address this issue quite well. I wonder if this issue could also be fixed for OI (or ILLUMOS)? 4. Backup to Tape via NDMP? What backup software are you using to backup OI? Currently we use VEEAM as we have a strong virtual environment but VEEAM is very very slow and failure prone for file backups. We do still have a backup exec server running to do NDMP backups from our NetApp system but this system shall be removed once we finished the migration to our NetApp system. I?m able to set up a backup job via NDMP but I cannot reconfigure or add anything to the selection list once the job has been created. Backup Exec just crashes trying to edit the Job. I wonder if an OpenSource software like Bacula could be used here. So yes a whole lot of questions. I would be very happy if someone would share his/her thoughts on this.
