[oi-dev] Bug tracking

Hi there,

as a result of an conversation in #oi-dev, i like to make a proposal for
a Bug-Team.

Currently we do have a bug tracker, but noone who is reliably tracking
it. Therefore the Bug-Team is to be founded. The primary responsibility
of the Bug-Team is to assign bugs to a proper developers. Thus a
developer will get informed by mail, that there is a new bug report for
its area. Decisions how the Bug Team will look like and who is doing
that will be made at the next OI Meeting, thus my mail have to be read
only as my personal proposal.


1. Any new bug will be checked if it is actually a new bug/rfe or can be
closed because it is just not a bug or a dublicated one.
2. Any Bug that can not be instantly closed will be assigned to one
developer or contact person of the corresponding area (consolidation).
The assigner does it at best efford and may ask at #oi-dev or oi-dev if
he is unsure.
3. If a bug get wrongly assigned to a person, that person will reassing
the bug to a person who does match better and possible inform the
Bug-Team member, why the bug does not fitt its area. This have to be
done in a friendly and helpful manner since we assume, that every
Bug-Team member acts benevolent and is willing to lean.
4. If a assigned bug does not make progress, a Bug Team member may ask
the assigned developer(s) about a status.
5. If the developer does not respond, the Bug Team Member will try to
contact an other person who is in charge for the specifig area. If this
is not possible it might a reason for a mail to oi-dev or be reported to
an OI Meeting.
6. It is not the responsibility of the Bug-Team to check for confirmend
bugs that has been assigned, the developer which has been assigned
should care for every bug assigned to him or reassign it (see 3.).
7. Bug Team members may but don't have to assing Bugs to it self to get
further information from the bug reporter.
8. A Bug Team member can also be a less technical person. Bug Team
members will not need to understand, fix or analyze any Bugs.


The work of the Bug Team is subjected to be a path of learning, not
everything will work perfect in the first place, everyone should be
aware of it as well as everyone is aware of the fact that Bug Team
members are benevolent people who help the project.

Matt Wilby (Wilbs in irc) is so far willing to be the person who will
start this effort and will be the contact person of anyone who is
willing join the Bug Team.
