I think that's the bit that needs to be stressed. The problem has been
the long history of Solaris binaries coming in varied shapes and forms.
I note that Solaris 11's filesystem(5) implies that /opt is for
unbundled *packages*.
The
analogous location for unbundled system software or for
applications is /opt/packagename/bin.
Maybe the manual could be improved by adding that there can be also
/opt/applicationname for *non*-packaged stuff, and only those might be
shared datasets.
