As far as I know, those all use Java, which uses Motif (libXm) instead of
Athena Widgets (libXaw).  In the 90's, software that chose to use the
Athena Widgets usually did so because they were free & open source,
while Motif was expensive and proprietary.  (GTK+ & Qt later took the
place of Athena for most such software.)   Sun had extensive rights to
Motif though from the CDE joint development deal, so used it in Java
instead since it worked better and looked better.  Java switched to
GTK on Solaris around Java 6 or 7 so it's native look & feel matched
the then native GNOME desktop instead of the EOL CDE.
