I've heard this happens on the Lenovo W520 (and maybe others)

It seems related to the same hardware bug affecting some Sandy and Ivy
Bridge chipsets, and fixed in the Intel Linux code in 2013-2014.
Martin's initial binaries had the same hang as current gfx-drm but then he
modified the driver to allow recovery.
I can try tomorrow on my system.
