Ah, I tried the first command on an OI system running the 2020-11-27
BE and did get some output while I inserted and removed a USB stick:

This system did automount the USB stick and did pop up a window
showing the contents of the stick. Now we are getting somewhere.
Something is wrong with the OS upgrade. All that's left is to figure
out what is missing or what is ignoring USB events.
