[oi-dev] emacs 29 (sigh)

I've recently updated, and found that emacs 29 doesn't deal well with
modifier keys.  I'm running into this:

Basically, I want the keys next to the two ends of the space bar to
act as what emacs considers "meta" (no matter what the key tops say).
That worked with a $HOME/.Xmodmap on a couple systems,
but not anymore in emas 29 (sigh).

Is it possible to opt out of that and install the latest emacs 28?
