Hi Marcel,
I discussed the topic of 32bit support in IO with Andreas and Till earlier.
Drop 32bit support in OI is the right decision. It is more and more difficult to build OSS components in 32bit because developer do not spent any effort in 32bit architecture and it would be more difficult for us to keep the OSS up to date with 32bit support.
That's why I had tried to identify the needed libraries for SunRay and provide these in a seperate repository (http://pkg.toc.de/sunray).
Providing a sunray meta package is a good idea and will generate this in the near future.
Related motif library I did a small attempt to use the OSS motif but this had not work out of the box although there only one tool needs one or two libraries. Until now I had not time to investigate this further.
