It seems to me we should be able to run a? Linux instance using VirtualBox which functions as a network connected print server.? The printer is on the net physically and the OI - Linux instance com? is internal.
This would allow using commonly available? Linux configuration files by simply installing the driver in the Linux print server instance.
Has anyone done this?? I don't see any serious technical difficulty doing this other than sheer annoyance.

Hi Reg

I know people using bHyve and zadm to run OpenBSD routers for unsupported Wifi Cards so having a Binary printers to IPP Proxy is perfectly feasible. 
My Own print server is a Linux Box on a Spare RaspberryPI that also handles USB Scanning and has a Webinterface. Ever since Windows 11 removed some 
Printer support Linux has become the only Option for OOTB Printer Servers.

Hi Jon

We have a Kyocera Ecosys M552cdw Aat home which technically already
speaks IPP due to MacOSX compatibility but the scanner was hard to get
onto the network.

 I have a Brother MFC-7360N? and an HL-C3290CDW.? Both have ethernet, but the driver packages from Brother only supply Linux, MacOS and Windows binaries to drive them.? This appears to be common? across all printer makers.? ?It's a significant obstacle to maintaining OI as a desktop system and a major barrier to adoption.? Not that I am deluded enough to think OI is growing.? But if we don't replace those who pass on, OI will die like so many others.? Replaced by? marketshare and old age.
I've never had a reason to play with containers and zones, but my understanding is that one should be able to create a Linux print server instance into which the appropriate drivers can be installed such that normal system boot brings it up to service the printer.
Is my understanding of the Linux branded zone/container concept correct?

I find the audacity link failure intolerable.
I should like for someone sufficiently familiar with the repository code to implement a filter which prevents deposition in the repositories of packages which have run time linker issues. And also purge the repositories of packages which fail to link.?
For the work I propose a payment via the OI cooperative? of $200 USD to whomever performs the task.??
For OI to survive it needs to develop a gig economy.? This is a first stumble at doing it.
