This sounds like a bug I encountered a while back:

When I was running opensolaris I used a modified rge binary driver
from Masa (who also wrote that gani driver) which he posted in this
thread:

I was under the impression that at least some of his changes had been
merged at some point, as upgrading to OI seemed to resolve my issues
(on amd64, at least). I guess there's a lot of different hardware
variations covered by the rge driver though, so it could be hardware
specific.
