[OpenIndiana-discuss] IO_b148 on an ATI HD 5770: Xorg failure / black screen

I have tried using various configurations ranging from the system's
automatic setup (i.e. no xorg.conf) to using various custom made
xorg.conf files where I tried enforcing different drivers such as the
VESA driver and different screen resolutions. None of these attempts has
managed to produce an image signal in Xorg to any kind of monitor.

I'm using an XFX Radeon HD 5770 1GB version for GPU.

The monitor I'm using is connected to the HDMI port of the graphics
adapter and it works fine. When booting into Windows 7 I get a full
1080p screen resolution in 32bpp and I even get sound. I have tried
booting the system up with an older analog VGA monitor but the screen is
still black on it.
