Sure, and as Jesus already mentioned the project has already provided .torrent files for people who wish to do so.
But not everyone can use BitTorrent, especially those behind corporate firewalls. For those people (and those who generally do not wish to use BT, for whatever reason), it's good to have many geographic mirrors, if only for redundancy.
