Well, I think I figured it out...  the newest flash plugin was the 
culprit.  Seems to work fine on Solaris 10 though.  Very strange.  With 
the new plugin firefox will start once then never again till the plugin 
is removed on my machine.  3.6.8 and 3.6.10.
