Yes, similar mileage on this end trying to do that... Think we had to run the actual scripts on the mounted iso image to get additions to install.

I have VirtualBox 4.0.4 installed in Ubuntu 10.10 host and oi_148 
installed as VBox guest. 

Now I download http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.0.4/VBoxGuestAdditions_4.0.5-Xorg110.iso 
and mount it to my oi_148 VBox and the start it. 

Then I try to run Devices->Install Guest Additions... but nothing happens. 

Anyone with better luck than me???
