[OpenIndiana-discuss] OpenIndiana (or others) and Dell E6320 - Sandybridge

Thomas and all,

Thank you very much.

Also, apologies for my first email to this list being short like that.. I
was in a hurry this morning.

I've been administering solaris for a bit over 20 years now ( main machine I
administer right now is an M9000 running solaris 10.) Programming for, well
ok I guess over 40 years now, but only 30 seriously and professionally. I
played around with opensolaris when it first started but it was lacking
support for a lot of common hardware back then and I never really got back
to it.

After I started reading about illumos and OI, I thought it would be good to
try again. I think these projects have a lot of potential, and I'd love to
see them succeed, so maybe I can help out in some small way. I figured as a
first step, I'd install on a simple laptop and spend time trying to get the
set of applications that I use every day working well. If something doesn't
work, that would be the first place to start programming.

As you saw.. I made a mistake and bought the wrong laptop for this
endeavor. Starting with a driver for an NIC is not what I had in mind!

So that's who I am. I'm going to read the link and order the USB wifi, and
see if I can get started.
Thanks!

-Ned
