Many thanks for the reply - but I see there are no Solaris drivers listed on the LSI site for the LSI SAS 9212-4i4e even though the controller is said to be supported under Solaris.
Have you actually used one with openIndiana?

Tim,

I recommend you to consider LSI 6Gb/s HBA. It work better than LSI 3Gb/s.

3Gb/s(mpt) driver is closed source while (mpt_sas) driver is open source
