Yes, you're right, sorry. That specific customer was running Solaris 10 10/09 or something.
I had no chance to check it on OpenSolaris host.
Do you think this would make a lot of difference?

Hello,
a couple of years ago I was building my VMs with OpenSolaris +
VirtualBox 3.x, then
I had to abandon my project because of instabilities of VB expecially
whth Windows Server guests.
With a lot of sadness I had to rely on VMWare for production systems,
with the drawback that
standalone VMWare hosts (the ones without a ZFS storage) cannot
benefit of the ZFS filesystem on the host to make snapshots and so on.
How does VB4.x behaves on OI? Anybody uses it?
Maybe the new combination makes it a production ready approach?
Gabriele.
As I have previously posted on this list, no problems with vbox 3.x on
oi_147 with Windows Server 2007. I have yet to experience instability
with vbox. I don't know why you have instabilities, but I have no
problems with OI, vbox or the Windows os installation. What problems I
did encounter were limited to the Softlink Oliver library software.
Maybe your problems are hardware related and not with
OI/OpenSolaris/vbox.

I ran a VBox 3.x for almost a couple of years, inside a Solaris 10 host, running Windows 2003 server
with Active Directory, SQLServer, etc.
The customer was suffering, and I tried to solve his problems in many ways (changing vbox paramers,
upgrading vbox), but it was like having a machine that sometimes was 100% CPU high for no reason.
Active Directory tools were misteriously taking minutes to open (users, sites and services, any of them).
Also, the clock of the machine was always going back 10 to 20 minutes.
If you opened the windows clock, you could see seconds going on at different rates....
Also, if you opened the task manager, statistics were updated at random timings....
I was forced to try a conversion of the entire machine into VMWare: I exported all the disks through
vbox utilities, converted them into vmdk and moved to VMWare.
Once moved, everything worked as expected.....
So was it Solaris 10 or was it OpenSolaris?
In any case, Vbox on OpenIndiana works for me.
