That presumes the user in question has been added to sudoers file. Do
many people do that as an alternative or in conjunction with RBAC?

Unfortunately su will not work, since the original problem is that the
user is not authorized to assume roles -- that elevation privilege
problem applies to the use of su.

pfexec su - on the other hand would work, but that's what doesn't in
this case.
