Sure messed this up, didn't I? :(

This is not an urgent thing.  If I have to I'll reinstall since there 
was nothing particularly important on this laptop.  I'll try the 
milestone=0 and see if I can patch it.  If not, I'll just start from 
scratch again.  This laptop was my "test new release" platform before I 
upgraded my server.

Thanks everyone for the advice.  I was just curious.  It's interesting 
to see that corruption of a single file can cause such a big issue.  I 
let the person that created the package what happened so he can fix his 
install procedure.
