[OpenIndiana-discuss] pkg(5) very slow, may this be due to local mirrors?

It's always a cpu-bound issue for at least me, Jim. On a T1 line, top indicates 100 % utilization most of the time.
Maybe installer scripts run at too-low of a priority? Kernel handles chmod too slowly? Sorting dependencies is inefficient? 

Surely there's a way to profile this (?)
