that was the strange thing, they got the same IP addresses back, but
something to do with how the windows was DHCP'ing meant that it didn't
gracefully close the samba connection, or re-use it properly after the
re-leasing ...

either way, the problem settled down, possibly because they use a newer
version of MS office, or a newer version of windows, or a newer version of
samba, or newer network cables ... but the DHCP server is still the sun
standard one ...

Most of these things could probably have been found/fixed in time, but in
the end we just worked around them because it was quicker.
