I have an installation of OpenIndiana b147 and have configured my default network printer to be my HP Photosmart C6280.
I turn on the printer when I need print something, then leave it on until I shutdown my computer. I noticed a message that OpenIndiana reported indicating the HP printer was unavailable but ignored it as I there was no print job in the queue. However, I noticed my computer becoming slower to respond but though it was Adobe Flash causing a problem.
However, this evening my computer was very slow and upon investigating found that my /var/adm/messages file was over 10GB in size from a couple of hundred megabytes a couple of days ago.
The details below are from my /var/adm/messages file, the hpcups messages make up 99.99% of the 10.4GB

While the initial process was 415, the process was restarted on powerup and assigned the id of 422. By killing process 422, the printer started printing a page which did not appear in the queue and the excessive number of log entries was stopped.
Why was 10GB of error messages generated by a document failing to print?
