This was indeed the issue, Alan. Saurabh Vyas replied to my mail and
pointed this out to me.

For now, I've removed the delivery of /usr/src/rpm for the IPS
delivered rpm5 build, and everything is working fine now (I finished
testing a minute ago!) :)

I've forgotten my secret passwords for my opensolaris.org account, so
I couldn't sign up on ips-discuss and ask there.
