Regarding this bit - as long as they have X11 libraries available and
the DISPLAY variable set, programs from local zones can render on the
global zone's X server (be it a physical console, a VNC session or
something else). Any networked X server should do, for that matter.

At least, I am used to doing this for installers and graphically
consoled programs that run in zones and render on a common VNC
canvas so as to be independent from network hiccups (which kill
X clients).
