OpenIndiana is a distribution, not a kernel development group. For that
you have to bug Illumos team.

You don't want that. Read/modify/write overhead would be huge. 128KB is
big enough to provide good random access without wasting too much space
or having a big overhead.

That is something you can change now in the sourcecode. I think it is
only a single line change.

New compressions would be interesting. But I am very worried about ZFS
fragmentation. If Illumos ZFS can not interoperate with Oracle ZFS or
FreeBSD ZFS, we will alienate the FS and the comunity.

I would like to be able to boot from a dataset compressed in GZIP. That
would be a "simple" GRUB change.

Anyway, the right people to request this is Illumos, not OpenIndiana.
