Thanks for the tip. With the help of a friend I created a file similar to the 
one
that is shown in the second URL. However, this did not work. In fact, it was
not possible to put accents on Greek vowels. After some searching we discovered
that files /usr/share/X11/locale/el_GR.UTF-8/Compose and 
/usr/share/X11/locale/en_US.UTF-8/Compose are wrong! They are not the ones
that come with Xorg sources. So I replaced these files with the correct ones
and now everything works as expected. So bye-bye iiimd!!!
