[OpenIndiana-discuss] Fun Task - Comparing OI packages vs CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu etc

I have been looking at this casually for my own purposes and would be
interested in working on it - I'm not much of a programmer, so this is at
least something I can do. I'm using OI on the desktop and the absence of
some common tools is particularly noticeable in that capacity.

This is a bit of a digression, but one of the major tools I can think of
right off is WebKit. I understand many GNOME applications and parts of GNOME
itself are beginning to standardize on WebKit and I think it will become
increasingly important to have this in the main distribution. 1.1.x builds
and runs with some minor glitches, but 1.2 produces a build with bugs
severely impacting functionality. As far as I am aware, OpenSolaris/OI is
alone among major *nix distributions in not including WebKit. There are a
number of packages like this that I have been looking into, and I'd be happy
to contribute to identifying important software that should be included.
