Per recent experience with one of their SAS HBAs, the 3ware line has suffered in quality since their acquisition by LSI. But the other LSI cards are quite usable as I've put a few in to production with Nexentastor and they can present up to 200+ volumes as single drives which is why I chose them to connect to Promise chassis loaded with a mix of SAS and SATA drives -- the latter of which required a small MUX card at the end of each sled to give it dual port SAS functionality.
