Alasdair - this looks very relevant - Thanks!  Unfortunately, I don't have a build environment set up right now, so I'm not sure how soon I can test this.  Within a couple of days, though, I hope to have some good data on this.

It might be worth you building/installing the latest Illumos gate to see if that addresses the issue.

We're doing reasonably regular Illumos builds, so if you can wait a bit I can ask someone to pop up a new build with this changeset.
