I thought I would check the state of play with OpenIndiana and SmartOS
working (booting) on desktops with Intel 5i chips or at least on Intel
DQ67SW boards.

Old bug reports:
fail to boot installer with H55 chipset with core i3
     https://www.illumos.org/issues/352
and
Installation on Intel H55 chipset with Core i3 does not work with osol_134
     https://defect.opensolaris.org/bz/show_bug.cgi?id=15976

I tried the latest SmartOS ISO to see if any changes have happened but
the boot process failed in the same position. I have the same problem
with the last OpenIndiana iso install image and the old Solaris 11 Express.
Strangely Solaris 11 now works, which did take be by surprise, so it
would be good if Illumos kernel get fix this problem.

Here is the debug output of the boot process (Intel DQ67SW):
-------

PCI Express-device: pci8086,38 at 1a, ehci0
ehci0 is /pci at 0,0/pci8086,38 at 1a

PCI Express-device: pci8086,38 at 1d, ehci1
ehci1 is /pci at 0,0/pci8086,38 at 1d

load 'drv/uhci' id 92 loaded @ 0xfffffffff7c38000/0xffffffffc0004ac0 size 63672/488
installing uhci, module id 92.

load 'drv/ohci' id 93 loaded @ 0xfffffffff7c4a000/0xffffffffc0004ca8 size 77904/488
installing ohci, module id 93.

------hangs here-----------

Thanks,

Andrew
