[OpenIndiana-discuss] DNS reverse resolution for SSH and 'last'?

On an OpenIndiana host (oi_151a4) which receives its interface
configuration via dhcp and is using svc:/network/physical:nwam, I am
finding that /etc/hosts.equiv requires absolute IP addresses in order
to work, and that the output of 'last -a' only includes absolute IP
addresses rather than DNS names like on my Solaris 10 system.
The sshd_config manual page says that LookupClientHostnames still
defaults to yes.
My /etc/nsswitch.conf is identical to /etc/nsswitch.dns
It seems that the ssh login processing is not doing any reverse DNS
resolution even though reverse DNS on those same hosts is working
fine. Why is this and how do I re-enable it?
