I have a Tyan S5510GM3NR motherboard that contains an IPMI
(Intelligent Platform Management Interface) subsystem with a BMC
(Baseboard Management Controller) device. It's described here:

    http://www.tyan.com/product_SKU_spec.aspx?ProductType=MB&pid=698&SKU=600000217

It came with the V1.03 BIOS, dated 07/27/2011. This BIOS contains a
faulty ACPI table that describes the BMC serial port (COM3)
incorrectly. Tyan has just released a new BIOS, V2.01c dated
08/16/2012, that corrects this error. It's available from Tyan
support along with the flash upgrade software and instructions.

To use IPMI with this motherboard, you need either the new BIOS or
the workaround for bug 2560 that was integrated in July 2012 with
changeset 13766:adffc698eaf5. Using both is fine too.

To use IPMI with Supermicro or Tyan motherboards that include BMC
devices, you need the fix for bug 1469 that was integrated in March
2012 with changeset 13659:57451298f940. OI release oi_151a2 or later
includes this fix. The BMC serial port appears at /dev/ttyc . These
motherboards include a dedicated network port for the BMC device. You
will need to use the BIOS to set the IP address of this device.

The remote console client I use is `ipmitool', available in package:

    system/management/ipmitool

It connects over the network to set the serial port speed and other
parameters, and to display the remote console.
