[OpenIndiana-discuss] Re webmin solaris package and OpenCSW and other things

Why would you want to use OpenCSW?? Most packages there are terribly
old: e g erlang is of the R11 family while the OI supplied erlang+otp
package is a late R12 and I'm realistically hoping for a mid R15
Erlang+OTP to be introduced pretty soon. Dovecot is also at least a year
old on OpenCSW..

Your Dovecot story still sounds like a bad deal.
Can you expand on that? What did you do, what happened, and what did you
do to try to get it fixed??

I'll see about compiling the latest dovecot from sources, and maybe even
package it as an SVr4 pkg. Unless someone can show me how to duplicate
the SFE setup for dovecot and other stuff on my own server. In which
case I might set up a repository and start contributing to the main
effort. There used to be a wiki page on that, but I can't seem to find
it?? Maybe I'm just going blind.

BTW, re: webmin: it installs OK using the webmin.com supplied Solaris
package, if one changes the root account from a role to a normal
account. I much prefer this to the IPS webmin, which cannot be updated,
and thus won't work with a recent dovecot.
I'm still not decided: maybe it would still be better to let the
non-initiates learn about the std admin tools and panels and access the
servers over VNC.
