Now that's a resource worth bookmarking! Thank you very much.

I found when I was writing the pages that I have managed to put up there that I hadn't taken as good of notes as I had thought. I have more that I'd like to put up, but I'd like to improve the quality of those pages that I already have done, and maybe incorporate Jason Matthews' suggestion about possibly including some kind of optional automated build script in them, too. I kind of have to think about how to do that in an appropriate way for the venue, though.

I've kind of gotten stalled on all that for a bit because I simply haven't had time to do much of anything lately. I've just been too busy with other things...

I'd also like to make a section for some of those minor configuration tasks - like how to put a shutdown button on the gdm welcome screen, for instance - that doesn't really fall into the area of compiling and installing software, but would save people from having to search the net to learn how to do.

And for instance, tips on how to transition from Linux's way of doing Sendmail to Solaris'. That wasn't a whole lot of fun, either.

My thoughts on this are along the lines of, "Yes, a lot of this you can find on Google, but wouldn't it be nice to have a place where people can go without having to go through all that?" And even if you can find it on Google, a lot of times, you still have to fiddle with it to make it work in OI. If more people would share their experiences there with things they've struggled with, they could save others a whole lot of grief.

I wish somebody would contribute a page on how to install FreeNX. That'd be real nice. And appreciated. I downloaded the sources a couple of weeks ago, and took just enough of a look at it to decide that it looked like it was a little more involved than I wanted to deal with at the time.

Anyway, I'm going to sign off for a couple of days. Today (Monday) is Nativity for the Orthodox. (What most of you would call Christmas.) Time for me to think about more exalted things than this.

Take care.

Peter, hieromonk
