That's very interesting information. Are the machines running the latest build? What do you use for the network (ie; infiniband, 10gbe)?

High CPU load atmospheric trace gas retrievals from ENVISAT/MIPAS satellite data, written in Fortran 95, running unparallelized with 2 to 5 GB RAM for each process on ~900 cores, with each one producing occasional high IO bursts over NFS to seven 50-100 TB ZFS fileservers
(500 TB in total), and a couple of pre- and postprocessing utilities written in IDL, Perl, C, shell scripts. Very demanding stuff that sometimes drives these systems to their limits (but they won't fail!).
