Thanks for the input... I know you are an experienced hand.
I think you might have missed some of the content in thread... a
solaris ISO WILL NOT BOOT when that sata selector part of the BIOS is
set to the one setting containing any mention of AHCI...

If left in the top mentioned setting the ISO will boot up only so far
then drop you in a lame maintenance mode.
Maybe you didn't notice the URL Ed posted where a declaration right
from ORACLE tells you not to leave it set to RAID + AHCI and to set it
to 'Separate IDE' ... I stumbled on that setting by trial error but
Eds' post points to an oracle document that confirms my setting.

But, perhaps I'm missing your intent ... would not be unlikely.
Do you mean to set ahci ... somewhere after install?
Is one of the settings above related to your point? If so, which one?
