Hey Michael.

Can you check which version of illumos you have ? 
There are reports on Irc that there is a smf bug where services are not started.

Just did a pkg update on an instance of the Mate experimental release 
installed into vmware and it no longer boots to the desktop.
SSH apparently isn't running so I cannot ssh or scp to obtain the logs.
I didn't see anything obvious in the Xorg.0.log or in dmesg.
Anything else I should be looking for?
