[OpenIndiana-discuss] pkg folder size escalated

hello everyone,

after a fresh indiana installation and removing a couple of packages my /var/pkg folder is more than 
700mb! doing comparable things with solaris 11.4 leaves me with a /var/pkg size of less than 200.
how can i clean that up safely and how can i keep it from escalating again in the future?
