[OpenIndiana-discuss] gfxdrm/OpenGL error with latest update

That is true, the gfx stack on OI has been stuck for years and what is even worse, nowadays we have powerful mobile devices that could provide a very nice user experience. But as we know as well the nasty and really difficult bug that prevents leveraging the NVIDIA gfx is something that requires some really good kernel expert (just to get into). And we just do not have the people to do that. They are stuck with other topics.
Btw, you mention postings in the PR‘s. Why not doing it like the Mesa mailing list where a broader range of people would get informed? And we do not have an unstable but just encumbered branch which is not being used for it but vlc, fs-uae etc.
It is not about willing to help but the lack of expertise that at least applies to me. I know the BSD community is by far larger than the OI one and they solved a lot of the things OI has (if it survives as a desktop) to tackle. Surely illumos-gate (and its forks have a commercial motivitation) so I not concerned about the desktop.
And as old as Solaris 11.4.42 CBE is, I prefer more and more its core (which can be extended via OSS) and run other OSes in the Virtualboxes of Solaris.
Cheers
Iggi
