Hello,
I recently posted the following message:
I have a Windows 7 image and when I am starting VirtualBox I get the following message:
VirtualBox can't enable the AMD-V extension. Please close all other virtualization programs. (VERR_SVM_IN_USE)}, preserve=false aResultDetail=-4054
My machine has a AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core Processor and I have enabled AMD-V from the BIOS. I have also tried to use another OS (ReactOS) but I got the same message. I am using VirtualBox Version 7.1.10 r169112. Any ideas what might be wrong?Russel suggested to use the solution mentioned at the start of this thread and this fixed the problem. I am not a kernelengineer and not a VirtualBox developer so I cannottell what causes this problem. All I know is that now my system works as expected. BTW, I have an oldAMD system that has the latest bits and I will checkwhether things work as expected.
Regards,Apostolos

Is it still necessary or has this been copied-and-pasted longer than
needed?
At least on Solaris, the need to disable SMAP in the kernel was a bug in
VirtualBox's kernel modules, and was fixed years ago in VirtualBox:
https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/17958
https://github.com/VirtualBox/virtualbox/commit/a7f69b4bcbdaeb231d17a7a56488044f17132d64
It looks like they even made it the default for all OS'es back in 2021:
