[OpenIndiana-discuss] Convoluted dependence

Just a story fresh out of the war room:

I couldn't play videos on youtube anymore ... until I found out
that they play when I mute the audio !? Reddit told me that, if
somehow, audio is blocked, videos won't play. But nothing in the
firefox settings blocked audio. And nothing in the OI audio settings
blocked it either.

So on to the audio devices: They somehow didn't belong to me anymore,
but to root. But this should be handled via the /etc/logindevperm
file, which has all the necessary settings. But that relies on
/dev/vt/{console_user,active} being owned by me, but they were
owned by root, too.

Diving into ttymon and login, which should handle that correctly,
but somehow don't. Stumbled across /var/adm/utmpx in the man page
... and then it clicked: Had removed world readability for [uw]tmpx*
to comply with the EU GDPR regulations (non-observability of user
activity), and that somehow stops login and ttymon to set the
console_user ownership correctly ... so GDPR blocks users from viewing
videos ...

Every new day is an opportunity to learn new things.
