I see no harm in booting the latest OI ISO to see if you can spot
a hardware failure.
From the shell, you can bring up your network interface.
You can import any pools, scrub them, snapshot datasets and send them
to another host.
If you have absolutely given up on the existing BEs and feel confident
in your hardware, the OI Text Install ISO installer does allow you to
create a new BE on an existing rpool.

I just tested by importing the host rpool from the OI installer
shell with zpool import -Nf and then re-lauching the installer
and choosing the F5 InstallToExistingRpool option.
