Thank you Andreas,
I’m also writing this from a PC running OpenIndiana (Dell Precision 7520, i7-7920HQ, with Quadro P3000, previously using a P4000 on a Precision 7720), and it is definitely not the NVIDIA card that’s working—nothing I've tried makes it functional.
Neither the NVIDIA P600 nor the P620 have ever worked with OpenIndiana on any machine I tested, from older HP Z440s to more recent setups, across all my tests.
However, I've never encountered any issues with Solaris or FreeBSD.
On OpenIndiana, it systematically fails for various reasons (memory mapping errors, unrecognized cards, firmware incompatibilities, etc.).
So, thanks a lot for these valuable examples with the HP Z6 G4, Andreas! It would indeed be great if we had a reliable list of working setups with NVIDIA somewhere for OI.

> To date, the only "modern" graphics solutions I've successfully operated on illumos have been the integrated graphics units from Intel processors (HD Graphics).

I am using NVIDIA Quadro P600, P620, RTX4000 (Turing), and RTX5000
(Turing) in my workstations.
In the past also had Quadro 600, K600 and K620, P2000, and P2200 (which
have been replaced only because I got newer cards).
So there must be something on your side that prevents the NVIDIA cards
from working on OI.
I have written this on my HP Z6G4 with an RTX 4000 with thunderbird 128.8.0.
Andreas
