Hello,

Here’s a short report on installing OpenIndiana on a "MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 (MS-7D25)" motherboard with an Intel 13900K processor (+ NVIDIA Maxsun GEFORCE GT 710 graphics card).
Since, as far as I know, this board isn’t referenced anywhere, maybe it could be added to docs.openindiana.org?
MATE runs fine on it.

The OpenIndiana 2023.05 Live DVD version allows you to boot directly into MATE and proceed with a graphical installation. (However, starting with newer OI releases, you have to manually install MATE from the MIN/TEXT version — it’s impossible to boot directly into MATE.)
In the UEFI: enable CSM support and set the boot mode to Legacy+UEFI. Then boot your media (in my case a DVD) in Legacy mode, not UEFI (the GT 710 won’t work otherwise). No other settings are required.

Once installed and rebooted, I encountered several Segmentation Faults (core dumped) during the first major update.
I simply re-ran pkg update several times, and eventually the updates completed successfully.

On the other hand, installing VirtualBox afterwards literally broke the system, and I had to reinstall everything.
Since then, it hasn’t happened again and VirtualBox now runs perfectly. I didn’t quite understand why...

You’ll find the output of all the commands below in the attached file:

Best regards,

Théophile Dudreuilh
