[oi-dev] Notes on marking python-24 obsolete

Hi Alexander,

Some packages are legacy and not really of use by most 'users' or superceded
by newer supported releases or software. Python 2.4 usually comes from the JDS consolidation.

So, uninstall python 2.4 from the buildbot, then fix specs for the defined default python (2.6.x), then respin related userland packages. Check to see is python 2.4 is purged from the repos or being pulled back in through a consolidation merger.

SunVTS is legacy. Better tools out there. Get updated version or archive it.
xvm was superceded here (pick your poison). Archive it. See Joyent.

Everything else is just not updated yet or obsolete (i.e. mercurial 2.2.1, etc) pertaining to oi-userland.

My first question: Is what you have in oi-userland_currently match or exceed what you have in the hipster IPS? If your userland is not fully compliant yet, you'll be chasing rabbits.

Hello.

Warning!!! We have a live zombie here....
Python 2.4 last release was 10 years ago and it's still is not obsolete. 
I feel that something is wrong.
Quick notes on making this real. Need comments and hints - especially on 
xvm and SUN VTS. Where do these consolidations come from? Do we need 
them?

Packages dependent on python-24:

These packages just need some work - we should  bring them or enable 
them in userland:
pkg:/database/postgres-84/language-bindings
pkg:/desktop/virt-manager
pkg:/developer/versioning/mercurial

Does someone need this one? Last release in 2008...
pkg:/developer/documentation-tool/epydoc

SUN VTS ? Where does it come from? Do we need it?

XVM ? Where does it come from?  Do we need it?

Should be marked obsolete:
